Create a focal point or draw a central unit within the room. A focal point is either an arrangement of the furnitures, color accents or accessories. Position large pieces first. A large piece furniture should balance any built-in items. The furniture should be placed in an area where it is functional and is pleasing to the eye. In the living room, create a conversation area by positioning two or three chairs closed together. Balance the area by putting the large sofa a distance away, depending on how big the area is. Then position the small furnitures, throws, center tables, side tables, footstool, lamps, etc. Remember to arrange also the small items according to their functions. Once the small items are placed in their spots, fill the open area or spaces that still need more decorating. Try to arrange the small items to achieve a balance look. Adding large wall accessories is also a focal point. Put wall accessories above furnitures so they feature like a decorative unit. Balance large wall accessories with smaller wall accessories. Window treatments are decorative functional pieces of a house. Window treatments can add beauty to the house because of their designs and colors. Be sure to blend the window treatments and drapes with the color of the house and furnitures and house accessories. Plants are decorations! They may be added to fill empty spaces. A large four to six foot or taller foot long plant in a big container can make a focal point to an area. Many different plants that put together in one area is also a focal point. Change the look of the home room by room! Here are some helpful ideas. Kitchen features: Islands are useful as additional counter space while other use it as additional dining table or buffet counter. Try to design the island countertop with elegant look using the real granite or formica that looks like a granite. Pantry if bigger is better. The pantry is much functional if it is located near the working area such as stove, sink or refrigerator. Convenient appliances such as microwave can be built-in to save space. Eating bar is very useful to provide a place for visitors to hang out, or for serving buffet. A good light fixture will illuminate the whole kitchen effectively. Skylight gives natural light and is very essential to a kitchen or one extra wide window centered over the sink to give more extra light. Living Room Features: Built-in entertainment center is high enough to an eye level of the majority and to accomodate both television and cds or dvds. Built-in bookcases can be closed together. These bookcases are also for photo albums, knick - knacks, sports collectibles, souvenir collections and many other home accessories. Location of the living room should be away from bedrooms. A comfortable and practical sofa is needed to fit relaxation. Built-in stereo with speakers is very functional for entertainment in the living room. A fireplace gives ambiance to a living room. Fireplace and desks are very comforting in a library. Lots of shelves are needed in the library to accomodate several books. An enlarged window adds light and brightness inside a library. Footstools for feet relaxing is a must in the library. Library location should be away from entertainment area or living room. Master Bedroom Features: Walk-in closet should have clothes rocks along both sides and shelving in the back. Bedroom with its own private outside entrance is elegant. French doors or sliding doors are full view doors that make a bedroom more larger. A master bedroom must have a private bathroom. Television and telephones inside the bedroom are needed. Bedroom location should be away from the other bedrooms. A comfortable chair used for reading is necessary. Bathroom Features: Bathroom flooring should be durable and does not penetrate water. A diagonal floor setting is striking. Bathroom lighting should be good enough especially in the counter. A night light in the bathroom is also useful. Toilet location is very important for privacy. Table to put brushes, combs and beauty items. Storage space is very important to put towels, bedroom linens, toiletries and clothes hamper. |
