The Garden with hedges The garden hedges are row of closely planted shrubs or low-growing trees forming a fence or a boundary. Hedges can be grown naturally for informal and formal gardens. They can be formed for green sculptures, straight line boundaries, dividers, fences for privacy and into different kinds of shapes.
The formal hedges can be tightly together. They give a fine point suitable for cutting. They also give a shape that can contribute to a shade. These plants are fast growing but needs to be trimmed twice a year once they have grown. The formal hedges can be used to create a pattern and texture and also create an architectural effect to the garden. Formal hedges often form a marking path to the garden. The informal hedges need more spaces and more bushy. Informal hedges has many stems and need to fasten them tightly together. Informal hedges can create an emphasis of a natural background. The dull colored hedges can be brightened up by adding climbing plants with variety of colorful flowers. Informal hedges attract nesting birds. Informal hedges also serve as shelters, noise barriers, fences or to provide privacy. Hedges are big commitment plants. They need lots of time for gardening. Choosing and planting the type of hedge plants and the mixture of plants need time too. A hedge should be free from weeds at the base. They should also be mulched during the first few years. The hedge needs adequate watering during the first year. Ligustrum ovalifolium, Lonicera nitida, Leylandii, Escallonia, Pyracantha, Elaeagnus x ebbingei, Santolina chmaecyparissus, Taxus baccata, Ilex aquifolium, Potentilla fruticosa, Berberis, Cornus sericea are examples of hedge plants. |
