Roses live and grow in a range of conditions. They prefer a clay and a chalk soil. They grow very well with fertile area. Roses grow on open spaces. Many roses are prone to mildew, rust, black and gray spots. To avoid spraying chemicals on roses, buy roses that are disease resistant. Never plant a rose to the same place where a previous diseased rose was planted. To plant a pot grown rose, soak the rose for at least one hour then dig a hole 40 cm deep where the rose will grow. Slide the rose from the container, loosen tightly roots. Put the rose at the center of the hole, backfill it with soil. Firm the surrounding gently and water it right after planting. It is necessary to do repeat watering to the newly planted rose especially during dry season. Kinds of Roses The old fashioned roses are classified as shrub roses. The shrub roses have more stems with fewer flowers. These roses do not require more pruning so they stay attractive throughout the whole year. The shrub roses are the most healthiest among the variety of roses. Shrub roses that originated from France has many petals and are similar with cabbage type and they are scented heavily. Some newer breed shrub roses are similar to old roses but they are disease resistance and are shorter. The shrub ground-cover roses are the newer developed roses. They are healthy plants and are easy to grow. The roses that are climbers and ramblers have longer flowering periods. They are less prone to diseases but some are prone to mildew and fly attacks. The climber roses are repeat flowering roses and their leaves are shiny. Ramblers are strong and robust giving more form and bigger branches to spread in the garden. Some varieties of roses are ballerina, cornelia, fruhlinshold, golden showers, nevada, rosa glauca, rosa rugosa' roseraie, de L'hay. |
